Tips/tricks for surviving school/college

Hi everyone

I decided to do a post on surviving school/college if your in the UK or High School if you are in the US.

I finished my time at a sixth form college in June and then had results in August. I am now studying from home this year before hopefully going to University (College if your in the US) next year. I had to take this year out as I have to have an operation and the rehabilitation afterwards would have disrupted my studies so I decided to approach it this way.

Therefore I figured I would lend some advice for how to survive your studies as often I have found that either myself or my friends found at times the studies were getting too much for them and they get too stressed and panic.

I have a few suggestions to help try to avoid that as being really stressed is not a good thing and can make everything spiral out of control.

1. Do the work as soon as possible. I know that it will sound boring but if you do not want to have everything piling up on top of you then get it done and you may have some time to yourself as well.

2. Always note down your homework. Most people have had that one piece of homework which they were sure they would remember and then the frantic texting your friends to see if you did have homework and it was suddenly more than you thought.

3. Make revision notes as you go. Just think about it the weeks of cramming before your exams could be made a lot simpler if you had the resources ready and waiting for you. A couple of extra hours could be the difference between grades as you will be able to learn it more simply.

4. Finally make a couple of sacrifices if it is a choice of going out with your friends or finishing your coursework, pick the coursework. I know people will disagree with me on this point but I see it as a day out with your friends which you could have another time or a piece of work which is part of your future.

Personally I would rather spend a few days when I turned down seeing my friends to secure my future as you can see your friends at a later date however if you don't try your best then you will never know what you could have achieved.

Give it your best shot and at least in the future you can look back and say at least I tried my best. I know adults who wish that they could do that now but because they didn't try when they were younger they are stuck doing a job that they hate.

Make the right decisions for you they will never be the right ones for everyone but you need to decide what is best for you.

Sorry this is a really wordy post.

Until next time,
Laura xxx
